Today I begin building the curriculum I will use to help my half American-half Dutch daughter improve her English vocabulary, speaking, reading and writing. She received yesterday the Scholastic Children's Dictionary I got online for her...she is ecstatic for it! Makes my job a lot easier, the fact she is so excited to learn!!

Clementine is a bright little 7 year old...she speaks very good English at the moment, and even reads it well. This considering she is, in fact, Dutch. But I have consistently spoken only English to her, emphasizing always correct pronunciation. No 'birssdays' allowed. However, she speaks her very good English in Dutch grammar form usually. I think with a structured study, consistent with her American contemporaries, she can develop her overall English skills, and not be far behind the pack back home.

Beginning with the alphabet and the individual sounds of each letter is where we will start, with a few vocabulary words dropped in there for her to search in her dictionary...she'll be over the moon! Hopefully she and I will stay focussed , enthused and really enjoy ourselves! Wish us luck!!
